Rest in Peace Dexi

Late last night our beloved dog, Dexi, was hit by a car. We took her to the emergency vet, where she spent the night in the NICU. But due to internal injuries we were forced to put her to rest early this afternoon.

Dexi was an amazing and beautiful dog. She filled our days with happiness like no other dog has ever done. She was by far the happiest dog I've ever met. And I can't remember a moment in any day that her tail wasn't wagging (even when she was in major trouble).

She spent the last few months running free through the woods behind our house, exploring every inch and living in complete doggy bliss around our house in the country. She was a great companion when Monty came home, sitting by my side both day and night. She always got up with me during the night and would come and sit right next to me as I nursed Monty and put him back in bed. She was just an amazingly sweet dog that can never be replaced.

I'm going to take this last paragraph and turn it into a public service announcement. Please, please, please always leash your pets. We lost our dog in the 5 feet that was between my parents gate to their fenced in yard, and our car door. It only took a moment for Dexi to see a stray cat and take off running after it. At that moment a truck was passing by, and that was it. I used to never let her "off leash" but have gotten lazy and over trusting that she would just go straight to the car (like she has everyday). Take the extra 10 seconds to leash your pet if there is any chance that they could get into the road.
