One Can of Spray Paint - Two Projects

I have two projects in the making right now. I'm working on a name plate and an old railroad lantern that I hope to turn into a lamp.

The name plate I got at Silver Dollar City and is his full name "Montgomery" and is carved out of pine wood. I'm super excited about it because I can't find anything with his name on it, and I can't bring myself to buy all of the individual letters - cause that would just be waaaayyy to expensive (silly me picked a name that's 10 letters long). But I digress, I bought it because it was only $7 and they did custom orders for no extra charge! What a bargain I thought, and it will be super easy to paint and add to his room.  If for some reason I really like it I may just go back and get his middle and last name done. Here is a picture of the before.

The second project will be much harder. I got this old railroad lantern from my parents and I hope to somehow convert it into a lamp. How? I'm not sure yet. But with my husbands help I'm sure we can figure it out. I'm also using the same paint from the name plate on this. We took apart the lantern to check everything out on the inside and it appears as if it originally ran off of a battery, but hopefully we can hook up an actual light socket and cord. One thing that I've learned lately is that baby things just suck the life out of batteries and I would like to avoid them if at all possible. It needs a lot of cleaning up, but after some sanding and a fresh coat of bright red paint I think it will look pretty nice. Check it out.
