Busy Busy Busy....

So, I will admit that the blog hasn't been updated as regularly as it was before. I have a reason for that......we are selling our house.

Between working full time and trying to pack/clean everything up, I barely find time to sleep. However, I vow to try and make time in the future so that when I go to do my baby book I will have something to put in it.

If you know anyone who is interested in buying please send them our way. It's a 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath, with 2 living rooms, formal dining, kitchen, and huge rec. room with a full basement that has the laundry room, 2 work rooms, office and walks out into our garage. This all sits on top of a quarter acre lot in the middle of Falls Church City.

6 Months Along....

So, I had my 6 month appointment yesterday and everything went really well. The doctors are still saying that I am looking perfect and right on track for everything. I got my first belly measurement at the office. They measure from below the belly to above the belly vertically while lying down (which makes you as skinny as possible :-), and I measured in at 24 inches.

So I guess my baby bump is 2 feet long from top to bottom....

We got to hear Monty's heartbeat, which is always nice. However, the little bugger is always on the move so it always takes some patience from both myself and the nurse to get him to settle down so that we can hear it correctly. If he is moving at all then it sounds a lot like swishing white noise. She gave up at one point, gave him a second to settle and tried again. She set the heart monitor thingy gently down and tried not to move, and I'm not joking - he kicked it as hard as he could. He actually kicked so hard that it startled the nurse and made her jump.

Monty must be a Kung-Fu-Fighter....

On another note, I did get my swine flu shot. I got lucky in the fact that the doctors office had just received their "stash" of the H1N1 vaccines that morning, and they only had 100 to give out. So I was very lucky to get it because it was first come first served, and the doctors office has about 500 patients total according to my doctor.

Back Pain...

So, the majority of my life I've made a point to not slouch when standing/sitting etc. I've always stood up nice and straight........until now. The weight that I'm now caring in front of me is pulling me down and hence making me slouch.

I know that its normal for pregnant women to have lower back pain, but mine is all in the upper part of my back. I find myself constantly saying to myself "geezzz....my back is killing me" - then I notice that my shoulders and head are bent over, and I straighten back up. Unfourtantly, after the back pain sets in I don't seem to get any relief until I go to bed and lay down.

I'm really trying to be conscious of my posture, but nothing seems to help....any suggestions?

Your having a boy.....

So, I find it very interesting how many strangers automatically say "your having a boy" when they see me. They typically look me up and down, sometimes tilt their head, smile and then say "your having a boy!" "Congratulations!". I'm completely amazed at how women just know from looking at me.

I have one question though....where were these people when I didn't know what we were having? It's like the day after we find out what were having, they all came out of the wood work just to re-confirm what we already knew.

Maybe someday, I'll be able to look at a pregnant women and say......

Making a Heirloom....

So, I have been feeling the need to make something for baby Monty. I've gone back and forth between making a quilt or knitting something special. And I think I've finally landed on making a train quilt. There is one problem though.

I have no idea what I'm doing!

I have never taken any type of sewing class, nor have I ever sewed anything over the level of a button on a shirt. I also don't have a sewing machine or any type of idea of the supplies I will need.

After a little consideration I thought about going about this in two different ways. One: I could "wing it" and try to sew by hand. Find a pattern that I like and ask for help every step of the way at a quilting shop, and pray for the best. Or, Two: pay for an actual quilting class, and hope that I finish the whole project while in class. Option two would give the opportunity to use a sewing machine, but also runs the risk of me not being able to finish - plus the added expense of the class.

I have considered trying to purchase a sewing machine, but they seem so expensive, and I hate to spend a few hundred dollars on a basic model - then later find out that I'm either horrible at quilting or that I really need/want a bigger and better model that I can do much more with.

So as of right now, I'm just stuck. I'm going to try to find a couple of local quilting shops in the area and ask a few questions.

Why am I doing this? I know I will probably cry out of frustration, stick myself one to many times and half way through ask myself why did I ever want to do this, but I would really like to make something that will last a lifetime (or close to it). A memory that Monty will have for longer then he can remember. So, one way or another I will accomplish this before he arrives.
