I Can't Wait for Monty's First Birthday

I am so excited about Montgomery's first birthday. I know it's forever away, but I find myself thinking about it a lot. Does anyone else do this? Am I blowing this out of proportion? Who knows, all I know is that I'm super excited.

I originally was going to have a train theme (to match his bedroom), but it didn't seem very original or super fun. I hunted around a while, with little luck on an original theme for his party. Then it dawned on me the other day when I was telling someone that Monty was a "monster" of a baby that eats me out of house and home. So, here is our first birthday theme.

Monty's Monster of a Party!

or

Monty's First Monster Birthday Bash!

Which do you like better? I'm not sure yet. However, I did find some of these things that I think I'm going to use for the party. I'm fairly confident that I can make the majority of the decorations/cake/outfit myself.

I'm going to take some inspiration from this cake I found on coolestbirthdaycakes.com

Then I was going to make cupcakes for everyone else and place them on the bottom tier/table in a circle around the "monster". I found these cupcake toppers on Etsy, I just love them! See the blue monster? I think I might make him or the green monster with the red cape for his cake.

My next Etsy find? His monster outfit of course! The jeans/sweater are a bit out of my price range, so I'm just going to make them myself! I think I can handle that! I'll add a "one" on his shirt or maybe I'll make a shirt that says "Monty's 1st Birthday"

And if Monty's actually walking or able to run around a little I might make him a cape! I know, this is going a little too far but it all just seems too fun. Maybe I'll save the cape for his second birthday when he can have more fun with it!
For decorations I think I'll just get balloons, plates, cups etc. that match the cake and outfit that I make for him. And I'll try to come up with some sort of birthday hat if I can, I found this tutorial and think it might work.

UPDATE: A few hours after posting this, I came across this blog while searching for more monster stuff. This is my party! And oh, it's so darn cute!!!!

  1. I love the idea of a monster theme! It's so cute! And you should do as many "cute" things as you can while he's young. Caleb is now too old for cute and doesn't like a lot of things I consider "boy". Like robots. and trains. It's all about the monster trucks and stuff with fire on it. And God forbid I call anything "cute". That just ruins it forever.

Anyway, if you consider the train theme again, here is a really cute cake pan.

I actually used this for Caleb's second birthday and it was super easy to decorate.

I think it's good that you are planning this ahead of time. That way you won't be overwhelmed when it comes.

  2. Silly Girl! I helped decorate his birthday cake that year, and it was easy, but very time consuming...remember? All that candy we put on it!
