Three's Company....

So, my 12 week ultrasound appointment yesterday turned out to be a big event. Matt and I originally planned on going together, but then my friend Katie called me up wanting to do something. I said, "well I have a doctors appointment - you can come if you want" and to my surprise she said "okay, what time is it at?" So, there we all were sitting in the doctors office. Matt, Katie and myself. Luckily it seemed to be fairly slow (as we were the only ones in the office) so our group didn't bother the nurses or doctors - in fact, I would like to say that we were very entertaining on what seemed to be a dull afternoon.

So, we headed down the hall to the ultrasound room. And there the three of us were. Sitting in a dark room waiting patiently to see the baby up on the "Big Screen". Yes, I said big screen, no small black/white monitor today. This thing had zooming capabilities, 3-D action, and all that jazz. The nurse picked up the baby on the "Big Screen" very quickly and a little silence fell around the room (for the first and last time of the day) that lasted maybe 5 seconds. After that is was; Matt - "look at how big the baby's belly is!" Katie - "look, it has Matt's butt!" Me - "Look it's eating!" We were all in shock over the movements the baby was making. Not to mention the fact that it looked like a "real" baby already.

One moment that was quit funny is when the nurse was trying to get the baby to flip over so we could get a better picture. She had me get up and walk around, go to the bathroom, cough etc. and nothing seemed to work. She then proceeded to jiggle and move my belly to get the baby to flip - that is when the baby had just enough. You could see the little guy/girl kicking and punching back at the lady trying to flip him/her. That is when I think we all kinda lost it and starting laughing hysterically (for the second time, after Katie's butt joke) - with my jiggling belly and uncooperative baby the nurse finally gave in and tried a different tactic.

All in all, it was a really fun experience.

Afterwards, I did have to give blood (bummer I know), but it went fairly well, as they actually believed me that I might pass out. So I got to sit in a recliner, the oldest-most experienced nurse on staff came to help, and I sat there with a towel over my face. Although, everyone found it very amusing that I had to cover my face, (my doc. informed me that I am now a legend, and says I rank #2 - next to a marine that passed out in their office) I found it refreshing that I didn't wake up being slapped in the face with orange juice and cookies being shoved down my throat (as I have more times then I would like to count).

The second picture looks upside down, but that is how the baby was - sorry folks, the baby was just comfortable in that position.

  1. It was a fun appointment .. we were able to see the little heart beat and prove the baby book that Becky was readying when RJ was snacking on the ambotic fluid
